Yarn
CYC #1 Super Fine.
Sock shown knit in:
Knit Picks Stroll (75% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon); 231 yds/211 m; 1.76 oz/50 g:
MC - Gumball; 1 skein, 40 g,
CC - White; 1 skein, 16 g.
Needles
US 1.5/2.5 mm needles for working small circumference in the round: DPNs, 2 circulars or 1 long circular.
Or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions
Stitch markers (M); stitch holder; tapestry needle.
Gauge
32 sts and 44 rnds = 4 in/10 cm square in Stockinette Stitch using US 1.5/2.5 mm needles worked in the round.
36 sts and 44 rnds = 4 in/10 cm square in Slipped Cross Pattern using US 1.5/2.5 mm needles worked in the round.
Size Information
Note: The crossed stitches in the pattern make the fabric tighter than a standard stockinette fabric. Please pick the size that corresponds to your foot circumference which will probably have a greater stitch count than a vanilla sock would for your size.

Finished Measurements
Sock circumference, not stretched: 6" (7", 8", 9") [15.24, 17.78, 20.32, 22.86 cm].
Sock circumference should be approximately 10% smaller than your actual foot/ankle circumference.
Leg length: Adjustable to fit.
Foot length: Adjustable to fit. Finished length should be about ½"/1.3 cm shorter than actual foot length.
The sock shown measures 7"/17.78 cm sock circumference, and 9.75"/24.76 cm foot length.
Stitches
LSC (Left Slip Cross)
Without Cable Needle: Sl1, K1, put left needle through front loop of the second st on the right needle, slip two sts off the right needle, put the right needle through the second stitch from behind the first st, Sl1.
RSC (Right Slip Cross)
Without Cable Needle: K1, Sl1, put left needle tbl of the second st on the right needle, slip two sts off the right needle, put the right needle through the second stitch, Sl1.
Slipped Cross Pattern
Rnd 2: K1, Sl2wyif, Sl2 from right needle, K7
Rnd 3: RSC, LSC, K4
Rnds 4-6: Knit
Rnd 7: K4, LSC, RSC
Rnd 8: K5, Sl2wyif, Sl2 from right needle, K3
Rnd 9: K4, RSC, LSC
Rnds 10-12: Knit
Directions
Cuff
Using US Size 1.5/2.5 mm needles and CC, CO 56 (64, 72, 80) sts using a long-tail or preferred cast on. Distribute across needles as you prefer and join work in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker or note start of round.
Work *K1, P1* ribbing until the piece measures 1.5"/3.75 cm from CO.
Leg
Break CC. In MC:
Rnds 1-3: Knit.
Knit in Pattern until the piece measures 6.5"/16.5 cm from CO, or desired length to top of heel.
Heel
I have included instructions for a heel flap and gusset but feel free to use any heel you would like.
This heel is worked back and forth across half of the leg stitches.
Heel Flap
Change to CC.
The heel flap is worked back and forth across 28 (32, 36, 40) sts.
Setup Row: Place the next 28 (32, 36, 40) sts onto a spare needle or holder to work later for instep, turn.
Row 1 [WS]: Sl1, Purl across, turn.
Row 2 [RS]: Sl1, Knit across, turn.
Repeat rows 1-2 for a total of 28 rows, ending with a RS row.
Heel Turn
Break CC.
Gusset
Setup Rnd: Work instep sts in pattern, PUK 16, K16 (20, 22, 26), PUK 16.
Rnd 1: Work instep sts in pattern, SM, K1, SSK, K to 3 sts before instep, K2tog, K1, — 2 sts dec'd.
Rnd 2: Work rnd even, maintaining patt on instep.
Repeat Rnds 1-2 a total of 10 (10, 9, 9) times, for a total of 20 (20, 18, 18) rows — 58 (64, 72, 80) sts rem.
Foot
Work as set in Slipped Cross pattern across instep and St st across sole until piece measures 1.5 (1.75, 2, 2.25") / [3.81, 4.45, 5, 5.72 cm] less than the desired foot length.
Toe
Break MC. In CC:
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: K1, SSK, knit to 3 sts before marker, K2tog, K1, SM, K1, SSK, knit to 3 sts before marker, K2tog, K1. — 4 sts dec'd
Repeat rnds 1-2 a total of 8 (9, 11, 12) times, for a total of 16 (18, 22, 24) rows — 20 (24, 24, 28) sts rem.
Break yarn leaving a 12"/30 cm tail.
Kitchener remaining stitches.
Note: When doing the Kitchener stitch don't do the first two setup stitches. Then, when you have one st rem on each needle, slip the st on the front needle off and then slip the st on the back needle off without working them.
Finishing
Weave in the loose ends. Block if desired.
