 Diamond Shorty Socks Pattern - With Shadow Wrap Heel




Finished Size

Ankle/Foot circumference, un-stretched: 8" (20cm). Un-stretched size should be about 1" (2.5cm) smaller than your foot circumference.

Leg length: Adjustable to fit.

Foot length: Adjustable to fit, finished length should be about ½" (1.3cm) shorter than actual foot length.

Sock shown measures 8" ankle/foot circumference.

Yarn

CYCA #1 Super Fine.

Sock shown used approximately 45g/208yd/190m of 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon fingering weight yarn.

Needles

US 1 (2.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions

Markers (m); tapestry needle.

Gauge

32 sts and 44 rnds = 4" (10cm) in St st worked in rnds.

Stitches

Diamond Lace Stitch

Diamond Lace Stitch Chart

Rnd 1: [YO, SSK, K3, K2tog, YO, K1] repeat around.

Rnd 2, and all even rnds: Knit.

Rnd 3: [K1, YO, SSK, K1, K2tog, YO, K2] repeat around.

Rnd 5: Knit.

Rnd 7: [K1, K2tog, YO, K1, YO, SSK, K2] repeat around.

Rnd 9: [K2tog, YO, K3, YO, SSK, K1] repeat around.

Rnds 10-12: Knit.

Repeat rnds 1-12.

TSK (Twin Stitch Knit)

With your right needle come through the back of the right leg of the stitch below the first stitch on the left needle. Place this loop onto the left needle and knit it. Pass the stitch back to the left needle. Now you have a pair of "twin" stitches on the left needle. 

TSP (Twin Stitch Purl)

Pass one stitch from the left needle to the right needle. Insert the left needle up through the purl bump under the first stitch on the right needle and purl this stitch. Slip the twin stitches from the right needle to the left.

DIRECTIONS

CO 64 sts using preferred method.

Cuff

Knit in 1x1 rib for 8 rows.

Leg

Knit in Diamond stitch for 11 rnds.

Heel 

The heel is worked flat on half of the leg stitches.

Decrease Rows

Row 1 (RS): K11, PM, K10, PM K10, TSK, turn.

Row 2 (WS): P30, TSP, turn.

Row 3 (RS): Knit to 1 stitch before twin stitch from previous row, TSK, turn.

Row 4 (WS): Purl to 1 stitch before twin stitch from previous row, TSP, turn.

Repeat rows 3-4 nine more times until eleven stitches on each side are twin stitches and ending with a WS row.

Increase Rows

Row 1 (RS): Knit to the first twin stitch after the center stitches, knit the twin stitches together, TSK next twin stitch (it will be a triplet), turn.

Row 2 (WS): Purl to the first twin stitch after the center stitches, purl the twin stitches together, TSP the next twin stitch (it will be a triplet), turn.

Repeat rows 1-2 until you have one twin stitch on each side unworked.

Row 1 (RS): Knit to twin stitch, Knit twin stich together, TSK the next instep stitch, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Purl to twin stich, Purl twin stich together, TSP the next instep stitch, turn.

Row 3 (RS): Knit to end of heel stitches, BOR.

Foot

Foot is knit in the round, working the Diamond stitch pattern on the instep and Stockinette stitch on the sole.

Setup Rnd: Knit around working first and last instep twin stitches together. This also counts as Rnd 12 of the Diamond stitch pattern.

Rnd 1: Work 32 instep sts in Diamond stitch pattern, K32.

Repeat Rnd 1 until foot measures 1.75" less than desired foot length. Ending with row 6 or 12 of the Diamond stitch pattern.

Toe

Rnd 1: Knit.

Rnd 2: K1, Ssk, K to last 3 sts of instep, K2tog, K2, SSK, knit to last 3 sts of sole, K2tog, K1.

Repeat Rnds 1-2 nine more times, for a total of 20 rows. (24 sts rem)

Kitchener remaining sts. 

*When doing the Kitchener stitch don't do the first two setup stitches, and when you have two sts rem on each needle: front needle [knit off, purl off], back needle [purl off, knit off].

Weave in ends.
