Stitch Glossary
M1L (Make one Left): Insert the left needle from front to back, under the bar between the stitches. Knit this bar through the back loop.
TSK (Twin Stitch Knit): With your right needle come through the back of the right leg of the stitch below the first stitch on the left needle. Place this loop onto the left needle and knit it. Pass the stitch back to the left needle. Now you have a pair of "twin" stitches on the left needle.
TSP (Twin Stitch Purl): Pass one stitch from the left needle to the right needle. Insert the left needle up through the purl bump under the first stitch on the right needle and purl this stitch. Slip the twin stitches from the right needle to the left.
Directions
Cuff
Using CC2 and smaller needles, cast on 56 (64, 76) sts. PM for BOR. Join work in the round, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: (K1, P1) rep to BOR.
Rep Rnd 1 for a total of 11 rnds or approximately 1" / 2.5 cm.
Leg
With MC and larger needle, work an increase rnd:
Size 1: (K14, M1L) rep to BOR. (60 sts)
Size 2: (K8, M1L) rep to BOR. (72 sts)
Size 3: K4, (K9, M1L) rep to BOR. (84 sts)
Knit from colorwork chart, joining CC1 where shown, until desired leg length is achieved. End with a rnd 14 or 28. The chart repeats 5 (6, 7) times around.
Shadow Wrap Heel
Note: When you start a short row heel by turning and working a purl row first, you don't have to cut the CC because you will end back at the BOR. Feel free to substitute your favorite short row heel.
Using CC2 and smaller needle, work heel as follows:
Decrease Rows
Row 1 (WS): Turn, Sl1, P28 (34, 40), TSP, turn.
Row 2 (RS): K28 (34, 40), TSK, turn.
Row 3: Knit until 1 st bef TS, TSP, turn.
Row 4: Knit until 1 st bef TS, TSK, turn.
Repeat short rows 3-4, 8 (10, 12) more times. [10 (12, 14) TS on each side]
Increase Rows
Row 1 (WS): Purl to the first TS after the center sts, Purl the TS together, TSP the next TS (it will be a triplet), turn.
Row 2 (RS): Knit to the first TS after the center sts, Knit the TS together, TSK next TS (it will be a triplet), turn.
Repeat rows 1-2, 8 (10, 12) more times. [1 TS left on each side]
Row 1 (WS): Purl to TS, Purl TS together, TSP the next instep stitch, turn.
Row 2 (RS): Knit to TS, Knit TS together, TSK the next instep stitch.
Note: Be sure to knit together the TS at the beginning and end of the instep on the first round of the foot.
Foot
Knit from colorwork chart until foot length is approximately 2" / 5 cm from the desired finished length. End with rnd 14 or 28.
With MC and smaller needle, work a decrease rnd:
Size 1: (K13, K2tog) rep to BOR. [56 sts]
Size 2: (K7, K2tog) rep to BOR. [64 sts]
Size 3: K4, (K8, K2tog) rep to BOR. [76 sts]
Cut MC and CC1.
Toe
With CC2:
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: K1, SSK, K22 (26, 32), K2tog, K1, PM, K1, SSK, K22 (26, 32), K2tog, K1, BOR
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: K1, SSK, Knit to 3 sts bef M, K2tog K1, SM, K1, SSK, Knit to 3 sts bef M, K2tog K1, BOR.
Repeat rnds 3-4 another 7 (8, 10) times. [20 (24, 28) sts]
Cut CC2 leaving a 12" / 30 cm tail.
Kitchener remaining stitches.
Note: When doing the Kitchener stitch don't do the first two setup sts. Then, when you have one st remaining on each needle, slip the st on the front needle off and then slip the st on the back needle off without working them. This prevents the little bumps at the beginning and end of the Kitchener.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Block if desired.
